Replacing windows on a stucco home comes with a unique set of challenges that standard siding or wood-framed projects don’t face. The project required deep attention to three major factors:
Protecting the Stucco Edge: Traditional stucco is brittle. Pulling out old frames without the right specialized tools can easily fracture, chip, or crack the surrounding wall, leading to massive, expensive exterior patchwork.
Creating a Bulletproof Water Seal: Stucco acts as a solid shell. When you install a new window, the flashing system must seamlessly integrate behind or tightly against the stucco edge to prevent driving rain or melting Alberta snow from leaking down into the hidden wall cavities.
Perfect Symmetrical Alignment: Because these two windows sit side-by-side on a highly visible exterior wall, the installation required dead-level, perfectly mirrored alignment to keep the property’s curb appeal symmetrical and sharp.
Our team used specialized precision cutting blades to isolate the old window frames, ensuring the brittle exterior stucco wall remained completely unblemished and crack-free.
Level and Plumb Calibration: We trued up the rough openings, ensuring both window cavities matched identically in height and depth before fastening the heavy-duty vinyl frames.
We selected premium, multi-chambered vinyl slider windows that balance effortless functionality with incredible northern insulation properties.
Low-E Thermal Core: The glass panes are coated with a specialized low-emissivity (Low-E) layer and filled with insulating gas, reflecting interior heat back into the home to combat Edmonton’s winter weather.
Easy-Glide & Removable Sashes: Engineered with smooth-rolling horizontal tracks and removable interior sashes for effortless cleaning and great summer ventilation.
To guarantee these windows never leak, we engineered a robust exterior sealing system:
Premium Brickmould Trim: The windows were finished with durable, white vinyl brickmould frames that sit flush against the stucco edge, acting as a structural shield against the elements.
Industrial Polyurethane Caulking: We applied a continuous, heavy-duty bead of flexible polyurethane sealant between the brickmould and the stucco. This premium compound stays flexible in extreme cold temperatures down to -30°C, ensuring the seal expands and contracts without tearing or cracking.
Exterior Retrofitting Done Right: Anyone can screw a window into a hole, but doing it cleanly in a stucco home requires real experience. If a contractor cheats on the flashing or uses cheap silicone caulking against stucco, it will pull away within two seasons, letting water slowly rot out your house framing.
